Winter Wonderland in Niagara Falls

Ever wanted to see a wonder of the world? Niagara Falls truly has some stunning views. If you have never seen a waterfall before you are sure to be in for a magnificent treat. Honestly, the park was not as big as I imagined it would be. Nonetheless, it still was a very breathtaking site to take in. My boyfriend and I traveled to Niagara Falls for a short weekend trip in January. I had never been to Canada and was interested to see how different it was from the United States. Let me tell you, it really isn't much different at all.

I saw a lot of familiar stores and restaurants, including multiple Chili's... The one thing I did not see however was a Dunkin Donuts. Nope, instead they have this chain called Tim Hortons. Tim Hortons, in my opinion, is better then Dunkin Donuts. The donuts they have are delicious and when you bite into one of them you get the sensation that you're eating a nice warm piece of cake. Tim Hortons coffee and hot chocolate options are also just as good! If you're ever traveling to Canada I would definitely pull over and try a Tim Hortons donut on your trip.

One of the most important things that I would highly recommend is staying on the Canadian side when traveling to Niagara Falls. There is so much more to see and do on the Canadian side rather than on the U.S. side. When my boyfriend and I left the Falls we ended up traveling across the New York side. It had just as great of views but fewer restaurants and activities, which are important to have because you don't honestly want to look at falling water for 24 hours. I would highly recommend checking out hotels on the Canadian side. It was so fun staying on that side and offered plenty of cool attractions to see. There are also fun things for adults to partake in such as the multiple casinos in the area. (I heard it is even better in the summer season because of all the multiple wineries in the area.)

We visited the Niagara Falls in the winter which was stunning to see the Falls covered in a white blanket of snow. However, the snow made it hard to see and do everything we had planned. A lot of the tours were closed because of all the ice that formed around the Falls, so we weren't able to do as much hiking as we wanted. They do keep one tour open in the winter which was pretty cool to participate in. The tour is called Journey Behind the Falls. This specific tour takes a group of people down 150 feet below the falls. Once under the falls there are secret hallways to walk down that let you look out at the falls from inside. It was fascinating to see what Niagara Falls looked like from underneath.

We stayed at the Crowne Plaza Hotel. This was a nice hotel that was connected to a big indoor water park and located right next to a Hershey's Chocolate World. The hotel also had a tasty buffet inside and was about a two minute walk away from many of the shops down the street .

There are plenty of tasty buffets in the area, but my favorite buffet would be located inside a hotel called the Fallsview Casino Resort. They have a delicious buffet called the Grand Buffet, which reminds me of the buffets in Las Vegas. We had to wait in a 40 minute line to be seated, but it was totally worth the wait. The buffet offered everything you could imagine, and of course my favorite was the dessert bar. Along with the buffet inside the Fallsview Casino Resort was a massive casino, multiple shopping areas, and many good looking restaurants. I had a great night at the Fallsview Casino Resort and would want to stay there the next time when I visit the Falls.

The Skylon Tower is another great place to visit. This is a popular place to get a great view of Niagara Falls and also enjoy some tasty food in the Skylon Towers one of a kind restaurant. The building rotates around to give a 360 degree view of the Falls. You can either take the famous bug elevator system to the observation room, or go a little higher up and eat dinner at the Summit Suite Buffet. The Summit Buffet is unique because while you are eating and being served a gourmet meal, the room is revolving around letting you see the Falls from all sorts of different angles.

Niagara Falls would make a fun and exciting family vacation because of all it has to offer. I was only there for a few short days in the winter and had a blast exploring the area. My next goal is to go in the summer and see what other adventouers lay behind the Falls. I hope to see you there!
